How do I play?
Chapter 1 walks you through it. In short: tap a unit at the bottom, then give it an order on the map.
- Hand crews: drag a line on the map and they scrape a fireline along it. Tap to send them somewhere instead.
- Engines: tap near the fire and they drive to the nearest road and spray (only when flames are in reach). They refill at the 💧 markers: the hydrant in town or a lake draft site. Tap 💧 Refill, or a marker, to top up early.
- Helicopter: tap anywhere for a bucket drop. It refills at the nearest lake and keeps working the same spot while it's hot.
- Air tankers (Free Play): drag a line on the map for a drop. Each has a few loads per fire (shown on its card), so save them for the run that matters.
- Groups: with five or more units, buttons for All crews, All engines and All air appear above the unit bar. Drag a line with All crews selected and they split it between them.
- Radio calls: when someone radios for a decision, the fire slows to a quarter speed for 12 seconds. Tap A or B (each is marked on the map). No answer, and they decide for themselves. Your answer can change the next chapter.
- "No way out!": a crew whose escape route the fire has cut off. Move them toward burned or bare ground, or drop water to open a path, before they have to deploy shelters.
- 🔭 Forecast: shows where the fire will be in 30 seconds if the wind holds.
- Pause (⏸) any time to plan, and change speed (½× to 3×) with the button next to it. Pinch or scroll to zoom, drag the map to move it.
Where is my progress saved?
On your device: stars, best scores, Station upgrades, the Case File and your Daily Fire streak. There's no account, so progress doesn't move between devices. Deleting the app, or clearing this website's data in your browser, resets it.
Can I see the tutorial again?
It plays once, the first time you start chapter 1. To see it again, clear the website's data in your browser (or delete and reinstall the app); this also resets your progress.
There's no sound
Sound starts after your first tap (phones and browsers require that). Check the 🔊 button in the top bar, your device's volume, and on iPhone the silent switch.
The game is slow or choppy
The fire and smoke are drawn with WebGL 2. Close other tabs and apps, and keep the browser up to date. If a device can't run WebGL 2, the game says so when it starts. Tell us which device it is.
What's the Daily Fire?
A new fire every day, the same one for everyone, that unlocks after you win chapter 1. Finish one each day to keep your streak going, and use Share on the results to post your score.
